Barbarossa… the man, the empire… A strange kingdom was this Holy Roman Empire, reaching from the North Sea to Sicily… And what a strange character this Frederick the 1st, known as Redbeard (Barbarossa): monarch of a domain with no capital. La Mandragore paints a musical portrait of the era of Barbarossa (Germany, France, and Italy, XIIth-XIIIth c.): excerpts from the Carmina Burana, the Laudario di Cortona, various French manuscripts, and from the work of Hildegard von Bingen. In this third album, Mandragore leaves the Mediterranean for new horizons. But the originality and energy for which the are know are only increased with the addition of new sounds and new collaborators.
